Explore another treasure of the Jaragua National Park: Laguna de Oviedo!
Among all the attractions of the country, Laguna de Oviedo is the best place to watch the most beautiful aquatic birds of the Dominican Republic.
This laguna is formed with more than 24 small islands, homes for herons, sterns, golden spoonbills, frigate birds, white egrets, pelicans and of course red flamingos.
After a boat tour, enjoy lunch on one of these islands. The vegetation is arid and mainly composed of cactus. Rhinoceros Iguana lives there – a little bit impressive, but they are completely harmless.
After lunch, we will walk across this deserted island to reach the mirador which offers an amazing panoramic view over the lagoon, the Caribbean Sea and the entire Jaragua National Park, surrounded by the mountain chain of the Sierra de Bahoruco.
With 24 wild and small islands, Lagoon of Oviedo is the best place to watch the most beautiful water birds in the Dominican Republic.
Besides from seeing many herons, frigate birds, pelicans, and beautiful pink flamencos, you could observe the Rhinoceros Iguanas, in their natural habitat.
