The Jaragua National Park, the largest of the Dominican Republic (1,536 km2), was declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 2002, dos offers unique landscapes and hosts many migratory bird species within an incredible diversity of ecosystems.
At Laguna of Oviedo, navigation around different “Cayos”, these small islands in the lagoon, hosting many bird species during nesting (White Ibis, Egrets, Gulls, Pigeons, Frigatebird, etc…) and many other species are also visible : American Flamingo, Roseate Spoonbill, Brown Pelican, Terns, Ducks etc… Visit to Cayo Iguana, as inhabited by many iguanas, totally harmless, and rather friendly.
Drive along the scenic coastal road via “San Rafael”, “Paraiso” and “Los Patos”. A bit further in direction south you will reach the “Laguna Oviedo”. Only a small strip of land separates the lagoon from the ocean. The Laguna Oviedo consists of 22 islands of different sizes and vegetation. After the visit, you will take the road and cross the all National Park in direction of the deep south until reaching Cabo Rojo. A boat will take you on a 15-minute ride to one of the most beautiful natural beaches of the world. The beach of the Bahía de las Aguilas is located in a national park and its sand is pristine and white. The bay is over eight km long. Experience an exceptional coastal landscape with crystal clear water in shades from turquoise to opal-blue that melts into the horizon. Enjoy lunch on the beach, go swimming or snorkeling and explore this untouched ecological and natural paradise.
