Cloud Forest Mountain
Discover the Eastern part of the Sierra de Bahoruco National Park with its amazing and impressive cloudy forest!
We will first go all the way up through the mountains to the ecological mirador of Cachote from where we can observe the river of Nizaito, the beach of Paraiso and the mountains of Polo, a mosaic of primary forest, secondary forests, vast coffee plantations, farming and secondary vegetation areas.
On our way, we will make several stops in order to see all the variety of agriculture in the mountains of Bahoruco: coffee, cacao and other tropical fruits.
At the top of the mountain, at 1300 meters, we will be in the middle of the cold cloudy forest, where scientists have identified many endemic birds (one of them is the famous Hispaniolan Parrot o “Cotorra” in Spanish).
We will take a nice walk (botanic trail), going down the hills inside the cloudy forest and, all along the way, you will get explanations from your guide about the plants you can see. Some are used in medicine or cosmetology; others are used by local Haitian Voodoo!!!
At the end of the walk, we will arrive at Cachote, a typical Dominican mountain village where the inhabitants receive electric energy only through solar panels. When, living in the cloudy forest, easy to understand that the sun does not shine so often.
This kind of paradise is the perfect location for our lunch break.
After our lunch, and after spending some time with the community, we will go down the hills with the Jeep, meeting with small local farmers, happy to show us their own production of coffee, fruits or vegetables. This valley is known for its great production of oranges, coconuts and mangos.
Come discover the mountain of Bahoruco and the cloud forest of El CACHOTE.
At the coffee, cocoa, avocado and mango plantations… you will meet the folk living on this mountain and are proud to show their way of life.
